These more confined settings, though they usually cannot claim larger numbers, have always been particularly satisfying for me. Why, performing a chamber version of my Figaro at Palais Palffy brought me much more pleasure than it did at the Burg, for different reasons, of course. One enjoys the applause that rises from a larger audience, but it is the silent attention that more intimate performances inspires that speaks the loudest.
