Recreation

1893_artmusIt has been the first full weekend off since the since the end of March when rehearsals began for our season.  So I took a day off blogging yesterday and this evening am just letting you know that I am alive and well.

One excellent activity for this family weekend was a visit to the Museum of Science and Industry (left in 1893) - a terrific jewel in the many jeweled crown of Chicago museums.  It is the largest museum of its kind in the western hemisphere.  I have no idea where the largest in the world is........someone may know!

There is a German U-Boat there, captured by the US navy in 1944.  A guided tour inside is a mind boggler.  What a life for submariners!  My boss at Glyndebourne was a submariner who was torpedoed in the Mediterranean during the Second World War - and survived to wind up in an Italian POW camp - a source of hilarious stories of how the Italians dealt with young British officers of that generation - sense of humor failure by the Italians was the primary source of entertainment.

The coming week will be active.  So keep in touch please!
