Pirates!

Asm2

I was so delighted and really amazed by the work of these high school kids in Pirates this evening.  It was really a terrific show put on by AJ Wester, a former member of the COT chorus years ago (in Akhnaten) and now teaching at Roosevelt as well as doing some wonderful education and outreach stuff for us.  And this was a great example of what that degree of practical professionalism can bring to the remarkable efforts of these high school children.  It was altogether heart warming.  And we really had the very model of a modern Major General (right) doing a convincing job with the Gilbertian patter as well as singing it clearly and with a really pretty voice.  That was more than one could reasonably expect - as was the whole show.  Well done everyone - and I felt proud that COT may have made a difference to these lives.

We are hoping that they will all be at our Simulcast of Don Giovanni in Millennium Park on May 9 and thereafter will be lifelong opera goers.  That's as good as it gets - so lets hope!

What a wonderful program this is. They look like they're having a great time - I wish I could have attended!
