Canada today

I am in Toronto today and tomorrow and taking the opportunity to catch up with the progress and development of Canadian singers who are such a force in the opera world - and that includes COT.  We have three in our Don Giovanni cast (out of a cast of eight) and two (out of five) in Orlando.  And I see that Ben Heppner is back in Tristan at the Met to great acclaim - so all is well with the world of Canadian opera singers.

It is a long tradition of course.  The great Canadian tenor Edward Johnson was General Manager of the Met before Rudolph Bing.  A string of Canadian tenors has adorned the opera world over the last 50 years.  Jon Vickers, Andre Turp, Ermanno Mauro, Michael Schade, Ben Heppner, Richard Margison, Joseph Kaiser.......and there must be more where they came from.  And its not only tenors. So a trip to Canada is always a fine investment apart from the many pleasures of the place.  More later no doubt.
