Poor old Teatro Colón

Colon_edited22
The dear old theater is having an overdue facelift and is closed for the duration which the cynics (realists?) believe will be considerably past the advertised date of May 24 2008.  Above you can see the old lady as she should never be seen - the graceful face looking like just another construction site.  And it was a gray morning.  Didn't have time to photoshop in a pretty sky!

Auditions are over for the day and we have whittled down the candidates to a dozen for tomorrow with a rather more taxing process for them all.  We may have two or three spaces to go forward to the October finals.  Meanwhile a good many of the good young Argentinian singers are away in Mexico City where the Teatro Colón company have guest performances of Turandot.  But I will catch up with them there on Monday.

It is now time for the Asado.

Comments

The Buenos Aires City Government has announced that it won't reopen in May.
The new General Director has also cancelled the 2008 Opera Season in alternative venues.
Poor old Teatro Colón.
